Day 2: Monday
Golf at Phokeethra Country Club
The Sofitel-managed Phokeethra Country Club, Angkor Wat, adds to the world class golf now available in Cambodia. The golf course hosted the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic and 2010 Cambodian Open. A combination of Paspalum grasses are used on both fairways and greens, which gives the golf course its deep green color and insures a high standard of course conditions all year round. A challenging championship caliber layout features water on all but one hole and concludes with the signature double water carry 18th-hole that offers a daunting final shot into a challenging island green. |
Day 3: Tuesday
Golf at Angkor Lake Golf Resort
The Siem Reap Lake Resort Golf Club was the third international standard golf course to be opened in Angkor Wat. The $USD150 million course took 1 year to construct and is located only 6 kilometers from the center of Siem Reap town. The Siem Reap Lake Resort Golf Course layout features generous palm lined fairways and with 5 sets of tees is suitable for both beginners and the most accomplished golfers. Both nines open with long par 5's which is a bit unusual. |
Day 4: Wednesday Half day Angkor Temples Tour including main temples and historical sites |
The Angkor Wat temple complex in Cambodia is the worlds largest religious monument. The temples at Angkor was built 879 - 1191AD and used for 400 years during the kings of the Khmer empire. The Khmers left the city in 1432, and after that it was lost in the jungle until a French explorer, Henri Mouhot, found it in 1860. He died of malaria 1 year later only 35 years old. A restoration project was started in 1908 and has continued since than except for periods in the 70's and 80's when military operations prevented archaeologists from working in the area. UNESCO made it a World Heritage site in 1992. |
Day 5: Thursday
Golf at Angkor Golf Resort (Practise round for the tournament) |
The world class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Cambodia and by a wide margin. The six-time major winner Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia. The Angkor Golf Resort brings Cambodia squarely onto international golf destination map. Tess, fairways, and greens are all maintained as what you would expect from a Faldo designed and IMG managed golf course. The latest Paspalum turf insures excellent year-round playing conditions. |
Day 6: Friday Golf at Angkor Golf Resort (Practise round for the tournament) PM Farewell Dinner Party & Prize Ceremony |
The Siem Reap course is a fair test of golf for all players and requires thinking and strategy on every hole to score well. For example, the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards are tricky, but easily seen from each tee box. The greens have plenty of subtle undulations and they reward and encourage a variety of approach shots. On the other hand each holes difficulty can be moderated daily by specific pin positions, easy or challenging. Furthermore, various tee box locations allow for both low and mid handicappers to choose the right course length for their game. |
Day 7: Saturday
Angkor Amateur Open Tournament |
The final 3 holes make up some of the most challenging, but fun, holes on the Angkor Resort golf course. The par-5 16th is a 588 monster that is probably not reachable in two shots except for very long hitters. The angle of the green together with the water on the left of the hole, poses a real challenge for those wishing to get their approach shots close. A cautious lay-up, away from the water, on the second shot will leave a very demanding pitch over a deep bunker to a shallow green. Hole 17 is the longest par 3 on the course and plays to a green guarded by water on the right side. The back pin locations, in particular, will demand a very well hit accurate tee shot. |
Day 8 Sunday Angkor Amateur Open Tournament,
Farewell Dinner Party |
The 440 yard par 4 finishing hole is as good as they come and will certainly lead to some dramatic finishes, a Faldo signature! The hole is a slight dogleg to the left. However, water runs down the left side affecting both the tee shot and the approach. The best tee shot must challenge the water on the left to open up the approach into the green. The Angkor Resort golf course is sure to offer enjoyment for all players and will have golfers coming back time and time again. Don't miss Angkor Golf Resort's 300 meter long driving range; a great practice facility to tune up before your next round! The Angkor Golf Club is the place to play on all Cambodia golf holidays. |
